The Canadian MIS Database (CMDB) contains financial and statistical operations information on public hospitals and regional health authorities across Canada. It includes information from 1995–1996 onward.
This information forms the basis of management reporting, including:
- Annual general purpose financial statements
- Financial ratio analysis
- Operational budgeting

Hospitals and health regions submit financial and statistical data that relates to hospital services. This data must be MIS Standards–compliant.
Most provinces and territories submit hospital data through their respective ministries of health. They may also submit data related to other health service activities.
Day-to-day health service operations data is collected according to a standardized framework known as the Standards for Management Information Systems in Canadian Health Service Organizations (MIS Standards).
