Long-term care
A large number of COVID-19 deaths in Canada have occurred in long-term care (LTC) homes (which offer 24-hour nursing care) and retirement homes. This has fueled a strong interest in gathering information about LTC homes in particular, including the type of ownership and the supply of beds.

Your Health System (YHS): In Depth is a unique tool with an array of comparable health system data on hospitals, LTC facilities and the health of Canadians across the country. The indicators in the tool provide baseline data on more than 600 hospitals and close to 1,300 LTC facilities. Examples of searchable information related to COVID-19 in YHS include

We’ve released a report presenting a series of system-level measures for monitoring health system capacity. These measures can support COVID-19 monitoring and provide a blueprint for monitoring future epidemics and pandemics.
Measuring COVID-19
Between March 2020 and May 2022, CIHI maintained a comprehensive data set of federal, provincial and territorial government interventions, announcements and other measures to reduce the spread of and improve health outcomes related to COVID-19. This data set includes information about case finding and management, openings and closures, physical distancing, health workforce capacity and other measures.
