Joint replacement

Hip and knee replacements improve mobility and quality of life for patients, particularly those who have spent years managing debilitating pain from osteoarthritis. These surgeries are among the top 3 most-performed inpatient surgeries in Canada and are among the procedures deemed priorities for wait-time reductions. 

The COVID-19 pandemic has had an impact on hospital care in Canada, with CIHI reporting fewer inpatient surgeries done since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, including a large drop in the number of hip and knee replacements.
