The purpose of the public submission process is to:

  • ensure the clinical relevancy of the classifications; and
  • ensure the continuing applicability of the classifications throughout the health care system.

The public submission period for the 2021 version of the classifications is now open. Please review the submission guidelines, then complete and submit the form below. A separate form must be submitted for each requested change. If you have questions about the process or the submission guidelines, please send them to classifications@cihi.ca.

The public submission deadline for requests to enhance ICD-10-CA and CCI is March 31, 2019.

Note: It is anticipated that ICD-11 will be presented at the World Health Assembly in May 2019 for adoption by member states. As such, WHO will no longer be updating the international ICD-10 with new content. Therefore, to maintain international comparability, no new content will be added to version 2021 of ICD-10-CA at the third and fourth character codes. For version 2021, updates to ICD-10-CA are permitted at the fifth and sixth characters to add specificity only. If you have any questions or would like to discuss changes to the classifications that would meet your information needs, please email classifications@cihi.ca.
