Request for changes to CCI: Public submission form

The public submission deadline for requests to enhance the next version of CCI is March 31, 2026. All submissions must be received on or before this date. Submissions received after this date will be deferred to the next version of the classification. A separate submission form is required for each enhancement request.

The updating process includes consultation with, and feedback from, internal and external advisors, including various experts and clinicians across Canada.

The intervention (technique) is currently not classified in CCI and a new code is required, as evidenced in Canada

The existing CCI code or coding directive (includes/excludes/notes) lacks specificity or intent is not clear

The existing code is not clinically relevant, as evidenced in Canada

The proposed change provides clarification where there is ambiguity in the classification

The proposed change will assist in pan-Canadian care planning, data collection for funding, outcome measurement, research or case-mix grouping on a topic of public interest and/or is a health priority

Include a detailed rationale outlining why this code change is necessary, the benefits of this change and the current information gap. If the rationale is unclear, we will contact the requestor for clarification.

Note: Excludes provincial or jurisdictional-only cases and those from outside Canada.

Please provide any references used, such as internet addresses (URLs) or copies of articles, and cite the author, title, journal, text, volume, page and year as necessary. If supporting documentation is incomplete, this submission will be returned with a request for more information.

CIHI may contact the public submitter for further information if required. Public submitters will be notified via email at the end of a review cycle if their request has been rejected, with rationale.

The CCI Classification Enhancement Requests for Version 2027 (posted on our web page) provides the status of each enhancement received for the current version of the classification under development, with the decision and rationale for each request. It is updated quarterly during the development phase of the classifications.
