Bio

Dr. Janet Tootoosis is 1 of 3 members representing Canada at large on CIHI’s Board of Directors. Dr. Tootoosis is a family physician with over 15 years of health care leadership and education experience and over 5 years of executive leadership and governance experience. She has considerable experience in leadership within the health care delivery and medical education sectors.

While creating the Indigenous Health and Wellness department at the College of Medicine, she continued to own and operate the North Battleford Medical Clinic Inc., providing primary care as a family physician to a rural community with its own set of challenges. As a past member of the Board of the Saskatchewan Health Authority and Saskatchewan Medical Association, Dr. Tootoosis brings a strong combination of academic and health system experience in advancing both Indigenous sovereignty and cultural safety needs.

Dr. Tootoosis participates on the Dean’s executive and the Cameco Chair Management Committee. She holds a medical degree and completed her family medicine residency at the University of Saskatchewan, and holds a Public Sector Governance Certificate from the University of Regina.
