About combined laboratory and X-ray technologists
Combined laboratory and X-ray technologists (CLXTs) are diagnostic health care professionals who play a vital health care role in the diagnosis, prevention and surveillance of diseases.Reference 1 Their work includes delivering general patient care, conducting laboratory tests, administering electrocardiograms and performing radiography exams (X-rays).
Depending on their training and authorization, CLXTs may also assist with advanced medical procedures such as
- Bone densitometry studies
- Initiating intravenous therapy
- Preparing medications and administering pain medications
- Transfusion medicine
- Non-contrast computed tomography (CT)
- Fluoroscopy
CLXTs practice in a variety of settings as clinicians, educators, managers and researchers. They perform their work in public and private health care organizations and in rural/remote and urban areas.
