Terms of Use for the ICD-10-CA/CCI Classification Tables 2018

The Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) has developed ICD-10-CA as a Canadian modification of the World Health Organization’s Tenth Revision of the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems (ICD-10).

The Canadian Classification of Health Interventions (CCI) was developed by CIHI to accompany ICD-10-CA.

CIHI has developed the ICD-10-CA and CCI Classification Tables, including the Code Title Tables, the Category/Rubric Tables, and the Validation Tables (individually and collectively, the Classification Tables).

CIHI is making the Classification Tables available solely for non-commercial use related to the Canadian healthcare system. You can only use and reproduce the Classification Tables for personal or internal use related to the Canadian healthcare system and subject to the restrictions below.

You cannot:

  • repurpose, distribute, convey, sell, sublicense, or otherwise share the Classification Tables;
  • use the Classification Tables to develop software that will be used for the collection or submission of data;
  • use the Classification Tables to support or update software that will be used for the collection or submission of data if you (or a contractor hired by you for this purpose) developed such software;
  • distribute, convey, sell, sublicense, or otherwise share any software, products, materials or other works that include or are linked to content from the Classification Tables;
  • provide others with access to the Classification Tables or any software, products, materials or other works that include or are linked to content from the Classification Tables; or
  • modify the ICD-10-CA or the CCI codes or classifications, including no changes to the intent, title, content and definition of the codes.

For greater certainty, use of the Classification Tables for non-commercial research purposes related to the Canadian healthcare system is permitted provided that you comply with the above restrictions and that you do not publish the Classification Tables except that you may publish the findings of your research and, acting reasonably, you may include reproductions of parts of the Classification Tables.

You will not alter, cover or remove any acknowledgement, copyright or other proprietary rights notice placed by CIHI or a third party on the Classification Tables. You obtain no title in or other rights to the Classification Tables other than those use and reproduction rights expressly granted to you by these Terms of Use. You will not take any action that may jeopardize CIHI’s intellectual property rights in the Classification Tables. If you become aware of any infringement of CIHI’s intellectual property rights in the Classification Tables, you will promptly notify CIHI and use commercially reasonable efforts to help CIHI protect those rights.

THE CLASSIFICATION TABLES ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. YOU BEAR ALL RISKS ASSOCIATED WITH USE AND REPRODUCTION OF THE CLASSIFICATION TABLES.

You will ensure that any reproductions of all or part of the ICD-10-CA and/or CCI from the Classification Tables will employ the following notices:

Non-compliance with the above Terms of Use may result in consequences that include but are not limited to the following: revocation of the rights granted to you under these Terms of Use and a requirement to securely destroy or return the Classification Tables and all whole or partial copies.

If you do not or cannot agree to the above Terms of Use, you may not access, view, use or reproduce the Classification Tables. If you access, view, use or reproduce the Classification Tables, you are indicating that you have understood and agreed to the above Terms of Use.

If you have received access to the Classification Tables through a separate licence agreement with CIHI, the terms of that separate licence agreement will prevail in the event, and to the extent, of any conflict or inconsistency between these Terms of Use and that separate licence agreement.
