Transient dialysis patients will be accepted for dialysis treatment only if space is available. The Ottawa Hospital has a centralized process for visitor requests. Treatments may be requested at any of the 3 satellite dialysis units — Hawkesbury and District General Hospital, Winchester District Memorial Hospital or Queensway Carleton Hospital — or at either of the 2 in-centre units at the General Campus or Civic Campus. Patients must request treatment at The Ottawa Hospital — Riverside Campus, where the centralized activity occurs. The transitional care nurse or delegate is responsible for reviewing all requests with the nephrologist on service. The patient will be assessed for stability and suitability for transient dialysis.
