CJRR Changes to Validations for Monopolar/Unipolar Hemiarthroplasties

As of October 1, 2012, the Canadian Joint Replacement Registry (CJRR) has made a validation change that applies to monopolar/unipolar hemiarthroplasty primary hip replacement procedures. Effective this date, at least one Femoral Component sticker will be mandatory, while Femoral Head stickers will be optional.

Clients who have already submitted monopolar/unipolar hemiarthroplasty procedures for 2012–2013 can now resubmit these procedures.

Please follow the guidelines below to categorize implant components as they relate to monopolar/unipolar hemiarthroplasties:

Femoral Component:

  • Modular body/stem/neck combinations
  • Femoral component/femoral stem
  • Monoblock implant for hemiarthroplasty (for example, Austin–Moore, Thompson implants)
  • Endoprosthesis

Femoral Head:

  • Monopolar head

Note: Bipolar heads, bipolar cups and bipolar liners for bipolar hemiarthroplasties are categorized under Femoral Head for CJRR’s purposes.
