Responding to User Needs

One of the most important aspects of developing CIHI Portal has been the opportunity to receive feedback from users on how CIHI can improve this new product offering. Here are some of the key ways that the input of users has helped to shape CIHI Portal.

Analytical Content

What we heard

What we did

We are interested in better understanding episodes of care across the health care continuum.

  • Launched phased introduction of tools for doing readmission and longitudinal care analysis
  • Planned the phased introduction of ambulatory care data

User Roles

What we heard

What we did

Some of us would like to be able to use CIHI Portal without having to learn the skills for creating reports. We just want to be able to view reports.

  • Created Information Consumer and Report Reader roles
  • Adapted the education program to serve three user roles

Timeliness of Data

What we heard

What we did

Understanding the limitations in the completeness of data, we would like to have data that are as current as possible for our decision-making needs.

  • Initiated phased introduction of open quarter Discharge Abstract Database (DAD) data
  • Intend to release open quarters of DAD data on an ongoing basis
