Effective Mechanisms and Policies for Establishing, Monitoring and Predicting the Needs for Nursing Services in the Atlantic Region

CIHI is participating in this project, which is led by the Atlantic Consortium on Research Utilization for Nursing (ACRUN), a network of researchers, policy makers and nurse-managers from the four Atlantic provinces. This study will:

  • identify the range of need for one health condition and evaluate the adequacy of existing information to support needs-based model planning;
  • deal with many other types of information such as population projections, patient population profile, treatment options, level of need and health human resource data; and
  • consider significant factors that might influence the health system, and developments in health information systems.

This project is needed to test the relevance of a needs-based model for nursing human resource planning in Atlantic Canada.
