NRS eReports education
NRS Decision-Support Learning Pathway
The National Rehabilitation Reporting System (NRS) Decision-Support Learning Pathway is a series of 3 decision-support courses designed to promote your understanding and use of NRS eReports. To register, please visit the Rehabilitation catalogue in CIHI’s Learning Centre.
Part 1: Understanding NRS Metrics and Indicators (eLearning)
This self-study module introduces you to the basic statistical concepts and terminology that are essential for interpreting NRS data. Individuals who have limited experience working with data or who want a refresher on basic statistical principles will benefit from this course.
Part 2: Building Your NRS eReports (web conference)
Whether you’re a new or advanced user, this web conference will help you create reports in the MicroStrategy eReporting environment. The live web conference is offered quarterly; a recording is also available. The course will help you learn how to build reports to answer administrative, clinical and resource utilization questions using NRS data. You’ll also learn how to view and customize reports to address specific questions and to compare your facility’s results with peer and national data. This session includes a demonstration of selected key functions using NRS eReports and opportunities to practise building your own reports.
Part 3: Using NRS Reports: Case Studies (web conference)
This web conference takes an interactive approach to training, using case studies to demonstrate the strategic use of rehabilitation indicators to support organizational decision-making. Through an in-depth exploration of inpatient rehabilitation case studies, you will use NRS eReports data to answer business questions related to program planning and policy decisions. You should have basic familiarity with NRS eReports. You’ll benefit most from this course if you are involved in presenting or receiving data compiled by others to support organizational decisions. If you’re unable to attend the live web conference, a recording is also available.
RPG methodology education
CIHI also offers training that introduces basic case-mix concepts and the Rehabilitation Patient Group (RPG) methodology used in the NRS. To register, please visit the Case Mix sub-catalogue in the Rehabilitation catalogue in CIHI’s Learning Centre.
NRS: Introduction to RPG Reports (web conference)
Topics covered include the RPG methodology, Case Mix Index (CMI), cost-weighting of episodes, accessing and interpreting RPG reports in NRS eReports, and applying NRS RPG reports to understand your organization’s resource needs. If you’re unable to attend the live web conference, a recording is also available.
