The National Ambulatory Care Reporting System (NACRS) pick-lists are standardized lists of common terms that are used to record information on emergency department (ED) patients in Canada. These lists are available to ED physicians and managers to collect standardized data for operational/utilization management as well as analytical purposes. Two pick-lists are used for data collection in NACRS:
- Canadian Emergency Department Diagnosis Shortlist (CED-DxS) captures the patient’s diagnosis at the time of discharge from the ED.
- Presenting Complaint List (PCL) captures the symptoms, complaints, problems or reasons for seeking emergency medical care as identified by the patient.
