Chief Privacy Officer and General Counsel

As chief privacy officer, Anne-Mari Phillips is responsible for providing vision, leadership and direction in the development of CIHI’s privacy program and ensuring that it is comprehensive, current and responsive to CIHI’s overall mandate. She is also responsible for ensuring that CIHI’s prescribed entity status under Ontario legislation is renewed on a tri-annual basis.

As general counsel, Ms. Phillips manages the Legal Services unit, which ensures that the organization is compliant with all relevant legislation as well as provides in-house legal services to the corporation.

Ms. Phillips is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada and a former member of the Yukon Law Society. She is a former law clerk of the Yukon Territorial Court and Supreme Court judges, has practised family, criminal and social welfare law with Legal Aid, has acted as counsel for the Yukon Government, and has extensive experience in human rights law as the executive director of the Yukon Human Rights Commission. Also, she has several years of experience as a member of the Yukon Mental Health Review Board. Prior to joining CIHI in 2011, Ms. Phillips acted as counsel for Health Canada and the Public Health Agency of Canada.
