DAD and NACRS Gap Analysis with Pan-Canadian EHR Standards Report

A joint CIHI and Canada Health Infoway Initiative

Dear CIHI and Infoway Stakeholders,

We are pleased to provide you with the results of an analysis of the similarities and differences between CIHI mandatory data elements in the Discharge Abstract Database (DAD) and the National Ambulatory Care Reporting System (NACRS) when compared with the pan-Canadian Interoperable Electronic Health Record (iEHR), Provider and Client Registry (PR/CR) messaging specifications.

The purpose of this collaborative effort was to determine the extent to which, and under what conditions or assumptions, data currently collected for CIHI’s DAD and NACRS data holdings could be sourced from the emerging jurisdictional iEHRs, Provider and Client Registries. We further wanted to understand how emerging jurisdictional iEHR’s can be leveraged for broader Health System Management information needs. The results of this analysis can also assist us to identify potential ways to solicit input that can help close the gaps identified in the analysis.

We welcome your feedback and invite you to review the material provided on our respective web sites. For further information please contact Standards Development at CIHI:
