Your Health System web tool and Health Indicators e-Publication
This update will include 29 indicators and 10 contextual measures currently reported in the tool, as well as the addition of 3 new indicators in Your Health System: In Brief (details below).
See the list of indicators and contextual measures that will be updated in the May release.
Shared Health Priorities indicators
As part of the agreement made through A Common Statement of Principles on Shared Health Priorities, we will be releasing 12 new indicators over the next 4 years that measure access to mental health and addictions services and to home and community care.
The first 3 of these indicators will be integrated into the Your Health System: In Brief web tool in the spring release:
- Hospital Stays for Harm Caused by Substance Use
- Frequent Emergency Room Visits for Help With Mental Health and/or Addictions
- Hospital Stay Extended Until Home Care Services or Supports Ready
These indicators will be reported at the provincial/territorial level only. The indicator Hospital Stays for Harm Caused by Substance Use will also show results by sex.
We will be releasing a companion report to support the new Shared Health Priorities indicators. It will be available during the YHS embargo period.
More information about the Shared Health Priorities portfolio, including a full of list indicators, is available online.
Updates on other Health System Performance indicators
In addition to the indicators to be released in YHS and the Health Indicators e-Publication, other Health System Performance indicators will also be updated and made publicly available.
Additional Acute Care indicators
3 additional Acute Care indicators were updated to reflect the most recent year of data. Results for these indicators will be available on CIHI’s website on May 30.
Cardiac Care quality indicators
The Cardiac Care quality indicators were publicly released for the first time in October 2017. These indicators were updated with the most recent data year; results will be available on CIHI’s website on May 30. For more information, read about the Cardiac Care Quality Indicators Project.
To facilitate the use of Hospital Harm data for quality improvement, it will be available in YHS: Insight in March 2019. Therefore, Hospital Harm results will no longer be available in the Data Preview for Indicators Tool. In addition, rates of hospital harm in Canada (excluding Quebec) for 2014–2015 to 2016–2017 will be publicly released in April 2019 on CIHI’s website. As with the original release in 2016, this release will include only aggregated results at the national level.
Data Preview for Indicators Tool: Webinar and access information
Results for existing indicators will be available on February 15. Results for the 3 new indicators will be available on March 25 (the later date is due to the additional time that will be required to refine the methodology and process the data).
