Understanding assisted death

In November 2016, CIHI brought 42 leaders together to talk about health system and public reporting information needs for MAID — medical assistance in dying. Participants told us that comparable, high-quality data is critical to improve the quality, safety and experience of MAID for providers, patients and their families. We also heard about the important role that MAID information can play in supporting end-of-life research. Participants identified 3 priorities for the future (PDF): support the conversation on pan-Canadian measurement; establish standards and data quality, and improve data collection; and promote comparable reporting and actionable analysis.
