Dr. Vivek Goel
Dr. Vivek Goel is 1 of 2 members representing Canada at large and is also the vice chair on CIHI’s Board of Directors. Dr. Goel is the vice-president of Research and Innovation at the University of Toronto. He is also a professor in the Paul Dalla Lana School of Public Health and the Department of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation at the University of Toronto, as well as adjunct senior scientist at the Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences and at the Program in eHealth Innovation at the University Health Network. Prior to this, Dr. Goel was the president and CEO of Public Health Ontario and the vice-president and provost at the University of Toronto. He was president of the Central East Health Information Partnership, a health intelligence unit funded by the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. From 1999 to 2002, he was the scientific program leader at the Health Evidence Application and Linkage Network (HEALNet), a federal network of centres of excellence. Dr. Goel is a licensed physician and Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada, having obtained his medical degree from McGill University. He did his post-graduate medical training in community medicine at the University of Toronto, and he also obtained a master’s degree (MSc) in health administration from the University of Toronto and a master’s degree (SM) in biostatistics from Harvard University’s School of Public Health.
