Bio
As executive director, chief privacy officer and general counsel, Rhonda Wing ensures that CIHI’s privacy policies and procedures are current and in accordance with existing legislation and that they respond to CIHI’s overall mandate. She helps create a privacy-sensitive culture at CIHI by ensuring that all CIHI staff are aware of their obligations with respect to privacy.
As general counsel, Ms. Wing monitors developments in privacy legislation across the country. She also manages the Legal Services unit, which deals with legal issues such as data protection, intellectual property, contracts and corporate governance.
Prior to becoming chief privacy officer and general counsel, Ms. Wing worked at CIHI for more than 9 years as our senior legal counsel. In this role, she provided legal advice and services on topics such as privacy legislation, data-sharing agreements, funding agreements, intellectual property, procurement and corporate governance.
Prior to joining CIHI, Ms. Wing worked in the private sector as general counsel and chief privacy officer for the Ottawa Senators NHL hockey team and Scotiabank Place, and as associate general counsel for the franchisor of Tim Horton’s.
Ms. Wing holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts from the University of Lancaster, England, and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Law. She is a member of the Law Society of Ontario.
