HP1 — CORR Incident End-Stage Kidney Disease (ESKD) Patients

Sheet Name

Canadian Organ Replacement Register (CORR) — Incident End-Stage Kidney Disease (ESKD) Patients by Sex, Age Group and Province of Treatment, Canada, 2009 to 2018

Data Sources

  • Canadian Organ Replacement Register, Incident ESKD Patients, 2009 to 2018, Canadian Institute for Health Information.
  • Canadian population estimates are from Statistics Canada’s CANSIM Table 051-0001.

Methodology Notes

Data from Quebec was not included for this table because of significant under-reporting.

Year refers to calendar year.

Crude rate calculations are based on July 1 population estimates from Statistics Canada. Alberta rates include patients from the Northwest Territories and Nunavut. British Columbia rates include patients from Yukon. Nova Scotia rates include patients from Prince Edward Island.

Data Quality Notes

CORR is a longitudinal database, following patients over time. Reporting centres may submit changes/updates for any particular year on an ongoing basis. As a result, data is subject to change and may differ from previously published reports.

An overview of under-reporting of incident ESKD cases can be found in Data Quality Documentation for Users: Canadian Organ Replacement Register, 2009 to 2018 Data.

Interpretation of Data

End-Stage Kidney Disease (ESKD): A condition in which the kidneys are permanently impaired and can no longer function normally to maintain life.

Incident Patient: A patient with ESKD who began renal replacement therapy (either dialysis or renal transplantation) for the first time in the calendar year.
